What is an inflatable kayak?
An inflatable kayak is a boat that gets inflated by using a hand pump.
Why you should own one?
Inflatable kayaks are gaining much interest in Singapore. With the development of water sports in our
local reservoirs and beaches, nothing beats renting a kayak to hitting the water. More people are living in HDBs, apartments
and condominiums, many of these people love to be out on the water, so rather than rent a kayak or canoe, which can become
quite expensive, they are buying an inflatable kayak, which gives them the ability to go whenever or where ever they want.
The perception that that these kayaks are just a toy for the pool is a misunderstanding of the ability and capability of this type of kayak. These kayaks are both strong and durable, they can handle any type of water or condition as well as the hard
shell kayak.
Designs for a kayak vary with the type of water you are using it on; ocean or reservoirs and it does not stop there. Do you
want to use it for fishing, diving, want a one person, two person, self bailing and more. These kayaks are tough enough to
withstand the obstacles you may run into on your journey. Unlike hard shell kayaks the inflatable kayak will bounce off the
rocks or other obstacles. Some kayaks have a double floor feature that makes it nearly impossible to puncture, which gives
you more confidence in the most vulnerable part of the kayak. Even when it's full of water, these kayaks still stay afloat.
This is an important consideration especially for the novice kayaker.
Here are key reasons for buying these kayaks:
- Light weight - easy to carry
- Can be carried in a back pack - great for getting to isolated areas.
- Easy to store - Condo's, apartments and on boats.
- Easy to transport - no roof rack needed, just throw it into the car boot.
- Affordable.
- Made from strong, durable material.
- Available with skegs for better control in flat water.
- Easier to enter - both from land and water.
- Very stable.
- Won't sink if swamped - very buoyant.
- Safer than traditional kayaks for the inexperienced.
